It is with immense pride and pleasure that I look forward to serving as
President of Sussex County Bowling Association for 2008 and to working with
Richard Pettet and Tony Sharman (Deputy Presidents) as well as an excellent
team of County Officers.
I wish to thank my club, Worthing Pavilion, for proposing my
nomination and the County Executive for the confidence they have shown in
electing me to this high office and for the very warm welcome afforded to
me. My theme for the year is, “back to basics”. In this respect,
there is a need for clubs and County alike to communicate in a more
effective and timely manner with the membership to engage and motivate it
into converting apathy into commitment. Declining membership is an ongoing concern for many clubs and, to
reverse this trend, I believe we need to be more pro-active in embracing
elements of change. If this means new ideas
and compromising some of the long held traditions of the game then this is a
bullet we may well have to bite. I ask clubs to review their recruitment
strategies and, in so doing, involve all their club members – try something
different and let’s “make” it happen! Rest assured, I will work tirelessly in an endeavour to maintain
and uphold the high standards set by my illustrious predecessors.
I wish you all a healthy, successful and enjoyable 2008 and I
look forward to meeting with as many of you as is possible during my year.
