Letter passed to the EBA for comments. (d) East Grinstead commented on the EBA DVD expressing unfavourable views. Passed to the EBA who suggested that these were not the general views expressed by other clubs. It does appear that the EBA are to produce a further Video. (e) Crawley Town B.C. advised of a reduction in their playing members due to the increased costs imposed by the Crawley Town Council consequently they have asked that their subscriptions to the County B.A be reduced accordingly. Passed to Treasurer for any action he deemed necessary. (The Secretary, once again, did point out that the subscriptions fees were based on the subscriptions clubs had received from members for the previous season. They are always collected in arrears.) (f) Gatwick Motors are to continue their sponsorship at the same rate as last year. (g) The Home Counties League has requested permission to tour Sussex in 2008. They will be based in Eastbourne and requested an Executive match during their stay 24th-31st May. (h) Confirmation of booking for the two Executive meetings at Coral at £150 per meeting.

the Eastbourne Report from the GPC Annual Lunch Due to the unsatisfactory service received in 2006 at Corals the GPC were asked to look for an alternative venue to hold the County Annual Lunch. A number of venues were discussed which mainly were too expensive. However, the Hydro Hotel at Eastbourne was viewed and appeared acceptable. A number of members have been there and were suitably impressed. The GPC agreed that The Hydro should be booked. The date booked is for Tuesday 4th December (we cannot be accommodated on the Monday) International Trial Nominations The following players were put forward by the GPC in conjunction with the selection committee for an International trial at under 25 level:- Darren Anderson, Hove and Kingsway B.C. – Stuart Holland, Rosemount B.C. – Mathew Ives, Worthing B.C. and Steven Flynn Popes Mead B.C. The following two players were nominated for a Senior International Trial:-. Adrian Finnie Preston B.C. and Ollie Ovett, Hove and Kingsway B.C. E-mails There are now about 65% of clubs with an e-mail facility. Secretaries without such a facility are once again requested to nominate a contact with an e-mail address to receive correspondence on his/her behalf from the County. With the prospect of postal rates rising even further it is important that we continue down this route in order to cut costs. List of Male members and fixture cards . Clubs are reminded that 2 copies of their fixture cards are required by the County Secretary to pass on to their respective selectors, a list of male playing members is also required. Rules At the request of clubs the GPC will be looking at the competition rules with particular attention to the award of credits – it is hoped to report to the executive in October with their proposals. 6 Treasurer’s Report Don started his report by announcing that Brian Kirk ex Worthing Pavilion left a legacy to the Sussex County B.A. of £6,000 primary to be used for the benefit of the under 25’s. He invited the S.D.P. Brian Lee to say a few words in respect of Brian. Brian Lee said that he had become a firm friend of Brian .Kirk since he came to Worthing in 2004 and joined Worthing Pavilion B.C.. He was a well known bowler in his native Yorkshire winning many trophies and holding many titles and his whole life resolved around bowls. Unfortunately because he contracted cancer he was unable to give as much to the Sussex County B.A as he or we would have liked and only actually bowled in Sussex for one year. He firmly believed that the future of bowls was in the hands of the youngsters hence his bequest to the Sussex County B.A. Brian Lee said Brian was talking bowls right up to his last minutes. Don said that the use of the legacy will be strictly monitored as whilst no specific demands were attached to the legacy it was made known that it should be in the main to make Under 25’s bowling activities more appealing and not just used to cover the junior’s general expenses which should be part of our Associations responsibility. Don thanked Brian Lee for his assistance both to Brian Kirk and to the County in handling this matter. For the 2007 Season our Association will have two fewer clubs, at 116, who have registered 5,458 members compared to 5,714 in 2006 ,in 1995 we had 121 clubs registered with 7,699 members which is a loss of 30% in 11 years. Don said he personally thought that the sooner the National Bowling Authorities get together and put aside their own agenda and work together for the good of the sport generally, the sooner we will all benefit. There are 1,216 members registered as Vice-presidents compared to 1,264 in 2006 which is an admirable percentage bearing in mind the overall decrease in membership. There are two new Divisional Controllers for Division 2 and 3 and they would welcome all the support that Vice-Presidents can provide. The Vice president Badge system has proved a great success. County ties, badges etc will cost the same as last year but some travelling costs on County Matches have needed to be revised and all selected players will be advised when selected. Our sponsors Gatwick Motors have generously agreed their continued sponsorship at £500 which is an enormous help to the Association and any support that members can provide to Gatwick Motors will benefit our Association. Don suggested that all clubs view their insurance cover and use the advantages provided by the E.B.A. It would appear that your officers continue to receive enquiries for information that has already been made available to delegates or secretaries and we appeal to delegates to report in detail to their clubs,

Hon
Match Secretary’s Report
- No Report 8. Hon Competition Secretary’s Report Entries for 2007 are down by 51. Division 2 is up by three. Sussex again has qualified for a 3rd entry in the pairs competition in the EBA Championships. A third place in the singles in 2006 was missed by only 8 entries, this year however we missed the extra place by 48 entries. In the triples we missed the extra place by 24 entries and in the fours by 48 entries. With almost 120 clubs you can see that only a small number of extra entries per club are require to get the extra places. Delegates are urged to try to get members to enter County Competitions and thereby obtain the extra places available. Attention is drawn to the changes this season in both the Champion of Champions and the under 25’s competitions. In the under 25’s Championship, because of numbers, Division 1 and Division 2 will be combined, Division 3 and Division 4 will be combined and all rounds up to the semi finals are now ‘Play by dates’. The Champion of Champions is now back to 21 shots NOT sets. All delegates are asked to ensure that their members are aware of these changes. 9. Hon Coach’s Report It had been a busy year. The main activity was organizing the upgrading requirements for level three coaches. The ladies County Coach Betty Freed organized the running of the Red Cross module with 100 % success. The upgrade seminar at Popes Mead B.C. resulted in 35 coaches upgraded to Senior Coach who can now carry out resuscitation action if required Three level 3 Coaches are to take the upgrade at a later seminar. There are 16 level 1 Coaches who have helped with our coaching needs. It is reported that one of our longest serving Coaches John Pegnall passed away recently. He had been coaching for nearly 50 years in both Surrey and Sussex. He will be sorely missed. Finally, the Coaching scheme in Sussex has it’s own website It can be found on Sussex bowls coaching. com. If you have any questions, contributions, or you wish to advertise please make contact. Thanks goes to our sponsor Mr. Paul Conner F.P.C. of Focus Investment Planning Ltd for his support. 10. Under 25 Report Alf Bridges started his report by saying how much he was looking forward to the new season with the Under 25’s again playing in the Home Counties Under 25’s League against the following Counties, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Kent, ,Middlesex, , Surrey, and Oxford. They have been drawn against Kent in the Double Fours. They are also playing four club matches. Alf said it can only be good for the youngsters to play in this level of competition. The usual coaching day will be held at Woodingdean. To date there are 70 under 25’s registrations. Alf said he appreciated the good team he has around him off the green, led by the Junior Vice President Richard Pettet, the Senior Vice President Brian lee with John Fairs of Tarring Priory also to help. Thanks were extended to all clubs who have loaned their green to the under 25’s to use for matches. Alf finished his report by showing the meeting the new proposed under 25’s shirt 11. E.B.A. Delegate's Report Alan reported on a number of items coming from the EBA but added that most of this information will be circulated to all clubs in the ‘April Mail Out’ Bowls England Tony Allcock has been appointed C.E O of Bowls England, Penny Maguire as Financial Controller and Gary Jack as I.T. and Office co-ordinator. Further appointments to be made. Laws of sport now available but Alan emphasized that this was for the outdoor game only. National Bowls Recruitment week will again be held this year but materials will have to be applied for 12. Home Counties Report Delegates attended the AGM in February where it was reported that the Subscription for 2008 would be raised to £125. Duncan Sage will be organizing the 2008 Home Counties Tour to Eastbourne. 13. Benevolent Fund Gordon Cummings told the meeting that the fund had been able to help one club recently but unfortunately had to turn down an application to another club because the club in question had not subscribed to the fund in the last ten years. Gordon asked delegates to ensure that their clubs donations had been made and urged clubs who do not participate to do so or at least consider it. 14. AOB Insurance A question was asked re this subject, is there any further directions from the EBA re the EBA Insurance Scheme? Alan said there was a meeting to be held within the next few days to discuss this, when hopefully this item will finally be resolved Date of next meeting Monday 22nd October at 2.30pm at Corals Stadium Brighton There being no further business the meeting closed at 3.35pm
